adidas Originals will open its first flagship store in Japan, the adidas Originals Flagship Store Tokyo, in Harajuku on April 24th. The store is located at Jingumae Torus, 5-17-4 Jingumae, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo. This will be the brand's sixth flagship store worldwide, following stores in Berlin, Shanghai, Seoul, London, and Milan. Lemon Life's art director, Tetsuya Chihara, served as concept creator. The store reflects the brand's new concept of being rooted in the surrounding neighborhood and culture and communicating street culture with consumers. The first floor will feature a space for communicating and experiencing street culture. The store boasts one of Japan's largest product lineups, including the widest variety of footwear in Japan, as well as the brand's iconic items and items selected to complement the Harajuku atmosphere. To commemorate the store's opening, the store will release the "ZX FLUX" running shoes (¥13,200) in mid-May, showcasing the landscape and culture of modern Tokyo. The shoes feature neon signs evocative of Tokyo's nighttime cityscapes. The store will also release the "Trefoil Tokyo Tee" (¥4,500), which replaces the Adidas logo's brand name with the name of the city. The limited-edition graphic, created to commemorate the opening, will be available free of charge through "mi ZX Flux Photo Print," a sneaker customization service that allows customers to design their own sneaker uppers using photos or images. Also, to celebrate the opening, an opening activation, planned by Chihara, will be held. The theme of the event is "Tokyo Light (Past/Present) Festival," and it will depict the city of Tokyo, where neon signs and office lights shine day and night, empowering young people on the streets. On the day, the venue will be decorated with modern lights as well as lanterns, an essential part of any festival.
In addition, Akutagawa Prize-winning author Kawakami Mieko will present a "manifesto" that she has written to symbolize the store, interpreting the feelings of young people in Tokyo. Under the direction of editor Ito Gavin, the manifesto will be exhibited as an interactive wall that moves in response to people's movements.
