Gucci will host "Tranceflora - Amy's Luminous Silk," an exhibition by contemporary artist Sputniko!, in the event space on the third floor of Gucci Shinjuku from April 23rd to May 17th. Sputniko! is a contemporary artist whose works include video, music, photography, and performance art. She is also an assistant professor at the Massachusetts MIT Media Lab. She was previously awarded "Vogue Japan Woman of the Year 2013" and was selected as one of "10 Japanese Women Shaping the Future" by FORBES JAPAN magazine. Her works include a machine that allows men to experience a simulated menstrual cycle, a robot that communicates with crows, and a lunar rover with high heels. They reflect the changing nature of humanity and society due to technology. Sputniko!'s new theme is "Flora," Gucci's timeless icon, featuring floral and insect motifs. The exhibition collaborated with the National Institute of Agrobiological Sciences (NIAS) to launch the "Tranceflora" project, which explores the future of flora. Installations and photographs will feature "glowing silk," developed by NIAS in 2008, as well as "rose-scented silk" and "silk that (may) make you fall in love," currently being jointly conceived by Sputniko! and NIAS. The exhibition will also feature "Amy's Glowing Dress," a space designed with approximately 3,000 glowing genetically modified cocoons and designed by shoe designer Shinya Kushino. A short film will also be screened at the venue. The film depicts the protagonist, "Amy," who falls in love with a man and dreams of genetically modifying "love silk" to create the ultimate dress that will captivate him. The venue will be illuminated with black light, illustrating the possibilities of future flora.
