EASTPAK and Jean Paul Gaultier have collaborated on a backpack. This is part of EASTPAK's annual "Artist Studio" charity project, in which the brand collaborates with artists and designers. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Designer Against Aids, which raises awareness of HIV. Gaultier has incorporated his iconic design into EASTPAK's signature "Padded Pak'r®" backpack. The lineup includes four models: a pilot uniform, a leather biker jacket (limited editions, priced at ¥54,000 and ¥72,000, respectively), a bomber jacket, and a denim jacket (main collection, priced at ¥15,000 each). Signature Gaultier details, such as the lacing used in the limited editions and denim buttonholes and pockets, are seamlessly incorporated.
Gaultier said, "Condoms are the most wonderful piece of clothing ever invented. My message is, 'protect yourself!' I have been involved in the fight against AIDS up until now, and will continue to do so as long as it is needed," in a comment that is fitting for someone like him who has lost his beloved to AIDS in the past.
The condoms are available on the Eastpak website, as well as at Drastic the Baggage, a bag shop run by Tokyo Delica, Rapax World, and some Gran Sax stores.
