Recreating the mysterious forest that spreads across the bottom of Lake Skarvsnes

The history of Seiko Divers dates back to the release of the first Japanese-made diver's watch in 1965. Since then, it has built trust through use by research teams and adventurers heading into harsh environments such as Antarctica. The exposed rock area known as "Skarvsnes" is located approximately 55km from Showa Station in Antarctica. A Japanese research team discovered a forest of moss and algae growing at the bottom of a lake. Formed over many years in the extreme conditions of Antarctic underwater environments, this mysterious forest of moss and algae is a magical sight. These plant communities, exuding a powerful sense of life amidst their fantastical appearance, were nicknamed "moss beds" by their discoverers, and they reside quietly at the bottom of an Antarctic lake. It has been discovered that these moss beds were not formed by a single species of plant, but rather by the coexistence of moss, multiple algae, and bacteria. Inspired by this mystical landscape born from the Earth, this watch depicts the moss beds in its dial pattern and green ceramic bezel display.
