KATO'/AAA, the brand created by designer Hiroshi Kato, known as a pioneer of three-dimensional denim, is hosting a pop-up event on the 6th floor of the Isetan Shinjuku Men's Building. It will run until August 26th.
The event will showcase the 2013-14 Autumn/Winter collection, centered around KATO's top-of-the-line AAA, which is entirely made in Japan. The theme is "MASTERPIECE," and the brand will sell classic AAA items as well as collaborations with JOHN SMEDLEY and Armor Lux.
Their signature denim comes in three classic styles: straight, narrow, and slim. This season, they're also releasing a 12-ounce lightweight denim. Two styles are available: a horizontal black denim with an indigo rope-dyed warp and black weft, and a denim with both warp and weft indigo. Only the slim style is available. The denim will mold to the body over time, revealing a distinctive vertical fading pattern.
Designer Kato participated in the launch of the men's line of the French brand "et vous" in 1988. He then worked on a material development project for Kurabo Industries, mainly developing denim materials. In 1999, he founded his own brand, "KATO'". He has also been involved in the planning and development of "Polo Ralph Lauren" since 2000. In 2007, he launched KATO's premium line "AAA", and in 2008, the women's brand "GRANDMA MAMA DAUGHTER". KATO's denim was exhibited at the joint exhibition "Bread & Butter" held in Berlin in 2004, and was selected as one of the world's top five denim brands.
