[Fashion Words] #01 Martin Margiela

Aug 25, 2013

"For example, the Reformation period of the 1900s, worker uniforms, and the style of early female fencers. I like to create a whole by combining individual imaginary worlds."
by Martin Margiela (MARTIN MARGIELA)
In "WORDS OF MODE," the editorial team at Fashion Headline will post words that they would like to archive from the eternal flow of fashion. The first installment is an official comment by Martin Margiela from 1983, before his debut.
In the spring of 1983, when he won the '83 Golden Spoor at La Canette d'Or, sponsored by the ITCB (Belgian Institute For Textile and Apparel), Martin himself gave an official comment in response to the question, "What are the sources of inspiration for my work?" He was 26 years old at the time.

Martin Margiela has maintained his anonymity since his official debut at Paris Fashion Week in 1988, and since he gives interviews as part of the Maison, he uses the expression "we" and it is rare for him to officially use the expression "I."

The design drawing was distributed by ITCB as a press release when the brand won the Golden Spur Award in 1983.
