Swiss bag brand FREITAG, celebrating its 20th anniversary, will open a street-level store in Shibuya on September 6th. This will be its second store in Japan, following its Ginza store. The address is 1F Komatsu Laurier Building, 6-19-18 Jingumae, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo. Business hours are 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
The store is a long, narrow space facing both Meiji Dori and Cat Street. The interior design, following the Ginza store, was handled by spillmann echsle architekten ag and Torafu Architects. The store is designed to resemble a tunnel, with actual street lamps used for lighting and white road lines printed on the floor. The store features the same V30 shelving as the Ginza store, displaying bag parts and products. The store also offers repair services and a DIY service where customers can bring their own materials.
Freitag was founded in 1993 in Zurich, Switzerland, by the Freitag brothers. They recycle truck tarpaulins and other materials to make and sell bags and other miscellaneous goods, and opened a street-front store in Ginza, Japan, in 2011.
