The Good Design Exhibition 2013, an exhibition of Good Design Award winners organized by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion, will be held at Tokyo Midtown from October 30th until November 4th.
The exhibition is being overseen by product designer Naoto Fukasawa, who also serves as chairman of the judging committee for the 2013 Good Design Award. The venue's art direction is handled by spatial designer Junji Tanigawa, and the visual design is handled by graphic designer Kei Matsushita.
The exhibition will display all of the products, architecture, and design projects that won this year's Good Design Awards, which will be announced on October 1st. There will also be public presentations by 100 designers from the Good Design Best 100, whose works received particularly high praise, and an exhibition of works that have been awarded with Thailand's Design Excellence Award. Other planned events include presentations of winning designs by manufacturers from the Tohoku region and Ibaraki Prefecture, designer talks on a special stage, and programs for the general public, such as a visitor vote for the "Good Design Grand Award (Prime Minister's Award)" and a stamp rally around each exhibition area. The Good Design Award is the "Good Design Product Selection System (commonly known as the G Mark System)," established by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (now the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry) in 1957. Award-winning designs are permitted to bear the "G Mark." Awards are given to a wide range of design fields, both tangible and intangible, from industrial products like home appliances and automobiles to homes and buildings, various services and software, communications for public relations and community development, business models, and research and development. Approximately 1,000 awards have been given each year, totaling approximately 38,000 over the past 55 years. In 2012, the Grand Prize was awarded to "Design Ah!", an exhibition held at 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT.
