Chilean architect Smiljan Radic and sculptor Marcela Correa's two-person exhibition "Closet and Mattress" will open on September 4th and run until November 30th at Maison Hermès Forum on the 8th floor in Tokyo's Ginza district. This time, the pair explore two pieces of furniture: the closet, which holds belongings, the past, and memories, and the mattress, which lulls the wearer into dreams. These pieces express the realm of memory. In addition to installations such as a giant closet and a mattress sculpture that seems to have been shaped by extracting memories, the exhibition also features a photo series of "Fragile Construction," depicting fragile structures found throughout the city. Radic was born in Santiago, Chile, in 1965. After graduating from the Catholic University of Chile, he studied architecture at the Venice School of Architecture. His work has been exhibited in China, Spain, Tokyo, and elsewhere. In 2009, he was elected an honorary member of the American Institute of Architects. Correa was born in Santiago, Chile in 1963. He majored in sculpture at the graduate school of the Catholic University of Chile. He is currently active mainly in Chile. The two artists have previously collaborated on sculpture and video works, including jointly exhibiting at the 2010 Venice Biennale International Architecture Exhibition.
