The fullness of lips, the curve of a neck, the lashes... these elements are present in Colette's work. Her sensual prose, in which every nuance of emotion is portrayed with precision and frankness, hints at deep passion and tugs at the heartstrings. With characteristic candor, Colette declared, "Love is not an honorable emotion."

Sophisticated, intelligent, and sexually liberated, Colette was a multitalented author, journalist, screenwriter, occasional beautician, and daring music hall performer. Drawing inspiration from her, Max Mara portrays the perfect woman in control of her life. Her Belle Époque elegance and demi-monde glamour reveal a hidden sensual side.

Modern and minimalist, yet deeply evocative. If Colette is literature's most famous woman, then Max Mara is design's Colette. And grainy black-and-white photographs of Belle Époque beauties from the Bois de Boulogne create a look that is both soulful and smart.

Inspired by the Japanese-influenced oval silhouette of the 1910s, new coats feature kimono sleeves and are presented in a full, bomber-style silhouette with a bloused back. Compact cashmere melton coats are crafted in tactile double-face camel and alpaca, the ultimate in street-smart luxury.

Pink trims on knitwear and felt highlight a fresh approach to outerwear, somewhere between a coat and a cardigan. Wide knit bands, both long and short, are accentuated at the waist with thin, obi-like strap belts, while soft calfskin bags, some with stylish hinges and clasps, are featured. As Colette once said, "Just like there are wine connoisseurs, there are also blue connoisseurs," and Max Mara proposes combining deep navy with jet black and smoky grey.

Colette often dressed like a man. Her novel's handsome anti-hero, Chéri, is an impeccable example of classic style perfection, including the prestigious officer's coat, the peacoat, and Max Mara's signature power jacket. Peignoir, pyjamas, powder... The scenes unfolding in the heavily screened boudoir and backstage precincts inspire camisoles, teddies, and slip dresses. Flannels, drapes, and open-stitched tweeds provide a seductive contrast to Max Mara's urban armor. Gently billowing ruffles bring a new femininity to bold broadcloth skirts and tunic dresses, while voluminous pyjamas and robes de chambre in flannel and luxurious midnight blue velvet elevate the look for day and night, their strict geometric patterns highlighted by the sparkle of black and blue crystals as the sun goes down.
