[LOOK] Stella McCartney's Summer 2026 Collection: Featuring futuristic materials and a new form of femininity, depicting "wingless flapping."

Oct 17, 2025
Stella McCartney presented her Summer 2026 collection at the Centre Pompidou in Paris. This season's theme is symbolized by the brand's proprietary futuristic material, "Fevvers." Rather than imitating the appearance of "feathers," it is an attempt to extract "the very concept of feather lightness" as a material. Stella has now gone beyond the word "sustainable" and has begun to incorporate "ethical as an emotion" into her designs.

Fevvers - Not an imitation, but a reimagining of the concept of feathers
"Fevvers" was developed as an alternative material to real feathers, but its purpose is not to imitate them. The material, which undulates slightly when reflected by light, reproduces not the visual characteristics of feathers, but rather the "feeling of wearing air." Stella describes this material as "the future of feathers," and refers to it as "Feathers Without Feathers."

Structure and Air - Silhouettes Where Fabric "Floats" Above the Body
The collection features draped dresses, transparent layering, and denim with cutwork. What they all have in common is that the fabric does not follow the body's lines, but rather "floats" for a moment before landing. This is Stella's signature femininity, which allows fabrics to move between structure and lightness, and it resonates with the floating feeling of the Fevvers material.

The Pompidou Centre, a "stage of structure and transparency"
The Pompidou Centre, chosen for the show's venue, is known for its architecture, which deliberately exposes its internal structure. The clarity of its structure and the lightness of the light that filters through it overlap with this season's theme of "structure and air." Dresses clad in futuristic materials glide smoothly through the framework of this modern building—the sight seemed to mark the moment when fashion once again began to discuss the "future of materials."

Shifting ethics from "function" to "sensation"
Stella McCartney has long been known as a leader in sustainability. However, this season, she is stepping into the realm of "being drawn to something because it is beautiful," rather than "choosing something because it is right." Balancing ethics and sensuality. This is the most Stella-like challenge embodied in the material Fevvers.
