Designer Kansai Yamamoto will be holding a "fashion show to inspire people," "Japan Genki Project 2015 'Super Energy!!' Produced by KANSAI YAMAMOTO," at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo on June 12th and 13th.
This event is the first in 2015 of the "Japan Genki Project," which is based on the concept of planting energetic "ki (trees)" in people all over the world, inspiring dreams, and supporting the future. Kansai Yamamoto, who has a track record of hosting international exchange events around the world, will use this innovative fashion show to encourage people and convey the wonder of having dreams, looking toward Japan after the earthquake, Tokyo in 2020, and the future of Japan. The runway featured a diverse cast of unique individuals, selected by Kansai Yamamoto in collaboration with photographer Leslie Kee, including model Kozue Akimoto, rock 'n' roll Yuya Uchida, Olympic gymnast Yukio Iketani, actress and photographer Miyuki Matsuda, and Isetan Mitsukoshi HDS President Taiyo Onishi. Over 200 passionate individuals, regardless of nationality, race, gender, age, or professional/amateur status, shared Kansai Yamamoto's passion for "revitalizing Japan!" They strutted across an unprecedented 100-meter runway, showcasing over 100 outfits ranging from Kansai Yamamoto's new collection to archive pieces. The show was complemented by music by techno artist Ken Ishii, who collaborated with electric trumpeter Toshinori Kondo to create a new Kansai sound.
