Isetan to release new "real clothes" yukata with Akimoto Kozue as image model

Jun 3, 2015

Isetan Shinjuku will begin selling its new 2015 yukata collection on June 10th, primarily in the kimono department on the 7th floor of the main building. The catalog introducing the collection, "Isetan Yukata Selection 2015," features actress and model Kozue Akimoto as the cover girl, proposing "real-clothes yukata styling."

According to the store's buyer, this year's lineup is primarily targeted at "those who want to try out yukata," such as "those who normally only wear Western clothes but are interested in Japanese culture and want to make their yukata debut this year," and "those who want a yukata that will be a conversation piece (for occasions where they'll wear a yukata)." The store has strengthened its focus on "real-clothes" that can be enjoyed casually.

The catalog, based on the theme "A Day in Summer," features Kozue Akimoto as the image model, showcasing the new yukata in various scenes, such as a couple's date or a moment at a book cafe. The women's yukata featured in the couple's date scene features a sheer white linen-blend yukata with a pale red rose design. It's an original Mitsukoshi Isetan yukata (75% cotton, 25% linen/¥33,000) tailored to fit the modern woman's figure. Available in three patterns, three colors, and three sizes, it's available. A matching men's yukata (90% cotton, 10% linen/¥28,000) features a black background dotted with tiny white patterns, evoking a summer starry sky. Available in two patterns, two colors, and three sizes, it's available. In the book cafe scene, Akimoto Kozue wears a Mitsukoshi Isetan-exclusive yukata (97% polyester, 3% cotton/¥48,000) featuring marigolds and a checkered pattern, creating a modern Japanese impression. Made with Wavelon®, a cool-touch material, it's said to feel cool against the skin.

Other men's yukata featured in the catalog include a yukata featuring each of the "Edo Komon Sanyaku" patterns arranged in a row, allowing for casual wear of traditional patterns (90% cotton, 10% linen / 28,000 yen), as well as a playful "Yorokeshima (curved wave-like stripes)" yukata (100% polyester / 38,000 yen) by kimono brand "Bushoan," featuring navy and yellow stripes.

Limited-time yukata-related events will also be held on the same floor. A special feature on "shibori" yukata, a traditional style centered around Arimatsu, Aichi (June 10th to 16th), and a special feature on bingata yukata (June 17th to 23rd) will be held. Other attractions include a pop-up shop for SUPER SEVEN, a yukata brand created by former fashion designer Nana Watanabe (July 1st to 7th); a pop-up shop for tutaee, which offers innovative yukata designs using the traditional chusen dyeing technique (July 15th to 21st); a denim yukata collection from Shi bun no San, a kimono brand proposed as fashion by Noguchi Dyeing, a wholesaler in Sapporo, Hokkaido (July 22nd to 28th); and a pop-up shop for phro-fro 5th Anniversary, a yukata brand proposed by Okuda Dyeing Factory, a dyeing factory in Hachioji, Tokyo (7th floor event space, July 22nd to 27th).
