I touched on the idea of romance. Right now, especially in the fashion world, that word is somewhat taboo. This collection is imbued with a romantic atmosphere. I woven values like love and kindness into the clothes. There's romantic love, and there's familial love. It's a conversation about emotions rather than theoretical views. I hold these ideas very dear to me, and I always work with them. I create beauty, and I create with love. History and human life are inextricably linked. Fashion from the past tells us about life in the past, but it also sheds light on our present. Looking back at history reveals our mistakes and strengths. The only thing we have is our past. I don't like nostalgia, the idea of not learning from history. History has everything to teach us. Its lessons are especially important in difficult times. This collection is shaped by history. It's not nostalgia that's important, it's understanding—understanding who we are and why we wear the clothes we do. It's remembering the past and using that knowledge to move forward.
- Miuccia Prada

We strive to create beauty. You can't talk about beauty without looking back. You can't erase the history of beauty. It's the past that determines our current perception of the ideal of beauty. We always go back in time. In these turbulent times, it's important to know our history. Who are we? Where do we come from? Only by knowing our past can we look to the future. There's a sentimentality, a memory of intense emotions. We've captured elements that evoke history, but that feel fresh to our modern eyes. The biggest challenge was to borrow elements from the past (Victorian, 1920s, 1950s, etc.) without replicating the silhouettes of those times, because we're not trying to tell history. This collection is about the love of fashion, the love we feel for it.

"INSTINCTIVE ROMANCE"

A visceral pull at history. Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons' Fall/Winter 2024 women's collection embedded fragments of history into fashion, exploring ideas about beauty and a contemporary world shaped by memory. Alongside the past, there's romance.

Knowledge of history not only sheds light on the past, but also defines the present. Clothes that incorporate elements from different periods offer new perspectives. The past is a valuable tool for teaching. With this collection, we look back to the past in order to create something new. Rather than rationalizing the past, we explore how the heart responds to ideals of beauty that are relevant today.

The past has quite literally shaped the fashion of today. Contemporary quintessential pieces like biker jackets, bomber jackets and knitwear are infused with elements inspired by the past, reworked with lines and details, and reinterpreted into different shapes.

Different elements are woven into the same garments, some crafted to fit the body, others designed to reveal the layers underneath. Fabric is the main focus in skirts, where delicate silks are paired with structured wools, creating a contrast between delicacy and strength. Vertical lines are emphasized, highlighting the slender silhouette. Shoes and hats further enhance the overall balance, and the garments that fit the body make a clear statement of femininity. There are also many touches that celebrate feminine movement.
Handbags hang from the arm, sunglasses are like an extension of the makeup. Behind the creations is a way of life. We give form to the intangible: human life.

Conventional tropes can be transformed by reifying, reworking and reinterpreting them. Traditionally masculine materials are transformed into delicate, feminine pieces. Commonly feminine details like bows, frills and ruffles are reinterpreted and radically redefined.

Asking questions, eliciting answers. A fashion show is a platform for initiating a dialogue with the world and exchanging ideas. The desire to communicate and express ourselves is a fundamental human instinct. Through what we wear, we connect with each other and express our emotions.
