Shinichiro Ogata publishes his first book unravelling the expression behind his Japanese confectionery shop "HIGASHIYA"

Jun 11, 2015

Shinichiro Ogata, president and creative director of the Japanese confectionery shop "HIGASHIYA," will publish his first book, "HIGASHIYA," in mid-June.

Shinichiro Ogata founded "SIMPLICITY" in 1998 and, under the concept of "creating Japanese culture in the modern era," has developed Japanese restaurants "Yakumo Saryo" and "HIGASHI-YAMATokyo," the Japanese confectionery shop "Higashiya," and the product brand "Sゝゝ (S)." In addition to his own brand, he is involved in a wide range of design and direction, including architecture, interior design, products, and graphics.

This book focuses on Shinichiro Ogata's Japanese confectionery shop, "Higashiya." From various angles, including confectionery, tableware, and space, Shinichiro Ogata personally explores what he has expressed at "Higashiya" since its founding in 2003. This book will allow readers to rediscover Japan's identity, including the creation of Japanese culture in the modern era and Japanese traditions that will be passed on to future generations.

In addition, to commemorate the publication of this book, a special exhibition titled "HIGASHIYA" will be held at the Pola Museum Annex from June 20th to 28th. Ogata Shinichiro's philosophy of expressing Japan from various angles will be expressed through photographs and words.
