ANN DEMEULEMEESTER, designed by Sebastien Meunier, presented its Spring/Summer 2018 men's collection at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris on June 23rd.
Inspired by the work of photographer Robert Mapplethorpe (1946-1989), the collection drew inspiration from Mapplethorpe's favorite flowers and portraits of Patti Smith, with whom Ann Demeulemeester had a close connection.
Imagining a male version of the intelligent and sophisticated Patti Smith, the collection added a romantic and bohemian touch, introducing silhouettes reminiscent of Smith's heyday in the 1970s. A distinctive feature of the collection was the use of contrasting silhouettes, such as a slim-fitting top paired with baggy pants, or a loose-fitting top paired with shorts.
A romantic and bohemian atmosphere was expressed as it was, with peony-like corsage necklaces, petal prints reminiscent of cherry blossoms, and plum pink shirts with floral English lace. The theme was also "English Dandy," and senior models appeared, adding depth to the collection.
