The first chapter of a digital comic created as part of the Shu Uemura atelier's 50th anniversary project was released free of charge on June 19th. This comic is the first in a digital comic marketing initiative launched by Book Beyond, a Gakken Group company. 50 years have passed since Shu Uemura's founder, Shu Uemura Shu, opened his atelier in his home. Based on the brand's spirit of "spreading the joy of makeup to as many people as possible," the four-part comic was drawn by animator and manga artist Shigemi Kakinouchi. The protagonist is Manatsu Serina, an office worker in Tokyo. Suffering from a lack of self-confidence, Manatsu reunites with her high school crush, only to be quickly heartbroken. Then, a book catches her eye. It's by Shu Uemura Shu, a pioneering Japanese makeup artist. The story is about Manatsu gradually becoming drawn to the beauty of Uemura's makeup, and how the power of makeup opens the door to her life...
The first episode will be released as a full-color comic. The second episode will be released free of charge in advance on July 3rd, the third on July 17th, and the fourth on July 30th. The series will be available in online bookstores at the end of July.
