Fashion designer Junko Koshino announced a unique collaboration with "Real Escape Game," a game created by event planning and management company SCRAP. On June 23rd, she attended a press conference at the live music venue Zepp Tokyo to announce her appointment as the official designer of the latest game, "The Secret of Charlotte the Tailor." The game involves participants being trapped in various locations and tasked with solving puzzles and escaping within a time limit. Each game features a different location and theme, from a single apartment room to a large hall or even an abandoned hospital. Each time, the game features collaborations with popular content such as "One Piece," "Attack on Titan," and "Neon Genesis Evangelion," making it a hit in the United States and Singapore. This latest Real Escape Game, "The Secret of Charlotte the Tailor," will be held at six live music venues across Japan, including Zepp Hall. The story's theme was "fashion x mystery solving." SCRAP CEO Takao Kato reflected on the inspiration for this project, saying, "We're always looking for a gateway into a story (= mystery). It could be a murder, fantasy, romance, or something a little like that. I felt fashion could also be a gateway into a story that blends into everyday life." He also mentioned the influence of the "Sapeurs," a group of fashion-obsessed gentlemen from the Republic of Congo that has been gaining attention since appearing in an NHK documentary. "In the documentary, the Sapeurs said, 'We used to fight all the time, but now we don't fight because our clothes get dirty.' It seems obvious, but I thought that arguments are disappearing from places like that. I think being fashionable is the furthest thing from war," he said, revealing the core of his latest work, which also contains an anti-war message. A collection designed by Koshino was also on display on the stage where the speakers stood that day. When asked by the moderator about her thoughts on the collaboration, Koshino, standing in front of the stage, bluntly replied, "I've never done anything like this before, so I have no idea." However, she expressed her enthusiasm for the project, saying, "There's something exciting about this collaboration between myself and Real Escape Game, and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens. Even though it's fashion, it's not something that's sold in stores. The items on display here are from fashion shows in Cuba and other places, or were used in the finale. Some are even the same items that famous customers have purchased, so I've brought along special items that you probably won't see up close." The clothes behind her and Koshino herself exuded a unique presence on stage, captivating the assembled press. When asked about the source of inspiration for her designs, she revealed, "I believe the human body is the most beautiful thing. The blood flowing through the body and the body itself are always 'round.' But it's not just a circle; I'm human, so I'm always moving. It's not something from a distant world; it's something that's always closest to me."
By the way, she also mentioned her older sister Koshino Hiroko and younger sister Koshino Michiko, who are also fashion designers. "In the Koshino family, we never do anything consistent. Everyone does something different. I don't think there's any point in imitating someone else. If my sister goes right, I go left, that's how it is. Everyone in the family is in the same line of work, so when the three of us are together we never talk about fashion (laughs). I think that influencing someone means being influenced. There's no progress in that. It's a struggle that starts from childhood," she said, expressing her firm belief.
