KH Gallery (4-3-13 Wako Namiki-dori Building B1, Ginza, Chuo-ku, Tokyo), which exhibits the artworks of Hiroko Koshino, the designer and artist behind the brand "HIROKO KOSHINO," celebrated its first anniversary with a reception on the 4th. The current exhibition, "The Gold—Homage to Klimt," marks the gallery's fourth solo exhibition since its opening. All 20 new works were created in her Ashiya studio this year, including a large-scale work measuring 220 x 388 cm. The ink and gold works on Japanese paper are inspired by Gustav Klimt's use of color. Unusually for Koshino, the gallery also features figurative works, including figures and birds. The balance of gold gesso, ink, and Japanese paper echoes Hiroko Koshino's collection archive, which has always juxtaposed East and West.
"The actual production period is about three months. Once I start painting, I have an image in mind, so it always goes quickly. I've already finished the pieces for my next solo exhibition, and the theme is 'flowers'. Painting and creating a collection are the same," says Koshino, who laughs as she actively seeks venues to present her artwork in Paris, as well as in Tokyo, where she presents collections every season.
The exhibition runs until October 27th.
