The popular "amphibious suit" wins a gold medal at Cannes Lions

Jun 26, 2015

The amphibious suit "TRUE WETSUITS," a collaboration between surfing brand QUICKSILIVER JAPAN and TBWA HAKUHODO, won both a Gold and Silver Award in the PR category at the 2015 Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, as well as a Silver Award in the Design category.

The suit, which won the Gold Award in the PR category at the 2015 Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, one of the world's largest advertising and communications festivals held in Cannes every June, was conceived as a "business suit for working surfers."

To achieve a "work-surf balance," the suit features the same advanced waterproof performance as a wetsuit, making it suitable for both the office and the beach. Pre-orders flooded in as soon as orders began, and despite being released only in Japan, it became a hot topic, with inquiries pouring in from overseas as well.

This award was given because the planning, which went beyond the boundaries of advertising and started from the product itself, has led to a campaign that has attracted worldwide attention. Currently, two videos, a concept video and a making-of video, are available on YouTube. The concept video shows a male office worker wearing the suit riding the waves and diving into the ocean, enjoying surfing with gusto while still wearing the suit. The making-of video talks about the passion that went into creating the suit.
