Designed by Simone Bellotti, the Spring/Summer 2024 collection, shown in the prestigious gardens of Milan's Chiostro di San Simpliciano, epitomizes the contrast between craftsmanship and tradition, steeped in practical luxury, that BALLY has cultivated since its founding in 1851. It expresses ideas about precision and natural organicity, rigor and softness. From the cityscapes of Zurich to the landscapes of the Alps, Swiss identity is diverse, yet replete with purity, subversiveness, scholarship and an essential playfulness.

The collection recontextualizes classic design principles for modern life, building on the understated elegance of Monte Verità, the utopian settlement of alternative intellectuals and creatives that settled in Ascona, Switzerland at the beginning of the 20th century. Their libertine approach, rejecting urban oppression in favor of full communion with the natural environment, was a cultural revolution in literature, dance, painting and performance. Here, Bellotti evokes the bohemian vibrancy of Monte Verita through sounds created especially for this collection by DJ Leo Mas, whose free-spirited Balearic sounds marked the 1987 Summer of Love movement in Ibiza.

Fusing masculine and feminine wardrobes, the Spring/Summer 2024 collection is inspired by Belotti's vision for a "layered brand" and embraces the concept of duality as a reflection of human nature. Swiss red, cobalt, and chartreuse shine against a neutral palette, evoking both urban cohesion and the soft nuances of alpine flora.

The familiarity of shapes, silhouettes and fabrics is accentuated and diminished through a play on scaled proportions and symmetry, gestures of drape and swing, explosions of volume and understated allure in dry cotton, ripstop, poplin, jersey, taffeta, pointelle and polished leather, expressed with a rich yet light touch.

Rooted in BALLY's 172-year tradition of fine shoemaking, archive models are reinvented as new style pillars. Revisited and refined, archival pieces like the Glendale pointed-vamp buckled flat (circa 1923), the Scribe burnished-toe oxford lace-up (circa 1951) and the stud-detailed Ballirina flat (circa 1940) infuse classic formal footwear standards with contemporary precision. The polished "appenzeller" talisman belt and toured leather bell both pay homage to Swiss customs. Duality is again epitomised in the luggage and handbags, with structured briefcases and framed purses crafted from polished calfskin and gold chains, and soft canvas messenger and weekender bags edged with BALLY ribbons and the coat of arms.
