For Ferragamo's Spring/Summer 2024 collection, Maximilian Davis explored and evolved the philosophy he developed at Ferragamo, exploring the relationship between balance and tension while infusing his distinctive aesthetic with a sense of effortless ease.

"I wanted to make it more accessible, not just in terms of fabrics and construction, but also in terms of how people want to dress. Italian fashion and lifestyle are based on the idea of doing things at your own pace and in your own time, and there's a glimpse of a relaxed Caribbean vibe that I find very relatable."

While drawing parallels between the ethos of Italian and Caribbean dress codes, I was also inspired by the contrasts of Arte Povera, an Italian artistic movement that emerged in the 1960s and 1970s, which combined everyday natural and man-made materials to elevate them into art. For this Spring/Summer 2024 collection, everyday fabrics like linen and cotton are bonded to satin to create capes, processed to resemble leather, or combined with polished, sculptural wooden accessories and details, elevating natural materials to sophisticated styles with meticulous silhouettes.

"I wanted a very pure and straightforward collection. I wanted to create a wardrobe that was approachable, but also tactile and interesting."

Throughout the collection, an innovative interplay between rigor and freedom is apparent. The vintage feel of leather pieces exudes effortless comfort, while the classic tailoring, faithful to mid-century sartorial practice, is accented with flowing slashes. The draped viscose jersey, a Florentine tradition but also found in 18th-century Caribbean dresses, is inserted with a bodice made of brushed leather, embossed with a hard, shiny finish, evocative of Renaissance armour.

The almost perverse sensibility of Maximillian Davis's creations subtly manifests itself in the plunging necklines of elegant day dresses paired with high patent boots, the high thigh crop of men's shorts and the pulled twist of T-shirts.

"Fetishism is in the DNA of my creations, and I believe that by incorporating it into everyday life and wardrobe, I can create something new and modern."

The collection's theme is also clearly evident in the footwear, with latex-treated nappa leather shoes and lacquered boots inspired by Maximillian Davis' aesthetic while utilizing Ferragamo's renowned shoemaking craftsmanship to ensure comfort. The 3D-printed, zinc-plated banana-cage heel design was inspired by the 1955 archive style, Calypso. "We wanted to revisit a style we've explored in previous collections," says Maximillian Davis. The curved platform heel is transformed into shiny sandals with horn bases and T-straps adorned with beads and stones.

For men, Ferragamo tradition is reimagined in a contemporary way. Oxfords, moccasins, and drivers incorporate contrasting Vitello latex for a new twist on classics. Similarly, handbags continue the graphic lines and geometric shapes of the previous collection.

The contemporary classic "HUG" bag is available in canvas, leather, and an iridescent pouch style. Also new is the luxurious "Fiamma" shoulder bag, which adds a playful twist to its symmetrical silhouette and incorporates a lighter from the Ferragamo archives as a closure. The classic one-handle bag from the previous collection is now adorned with wood beads and fringe, emblematic of this season's effortless mood. The men's bag collection mainly consists of tote bags with a unique star-like silhouette, and the use of bonded materials and minimal metal fittings creates a minimalist, light-hearted impression.
