Hohohoza, a souvenir shop in Jodo-ji Temple, Kyoto, known for its unusually large selection of books, will open a pop-up shop featuring Kyoto-related items at BEAMS JAPAN in Shinjuku, Tokyo, from February 4th to March 5th.
The pop-up shop is part of the "Kyoto Walk in Tokyo" initiative, launched in 2011 to promote Kyoto City's "Kyoto Sosei" initiative in the greater Tokyo area, which aims to preserve Kyoto's charm and connect it to the future. The project holds various events in various locations around Tokyo for approximately one month each year between February and March, and the Hohohoza pop-up shop will be the main event. The shop will sell Kyoto-related books, fashion items, miscellaneous goods, and food rarely available in Tokyo. Organic cotton T-shirts, each hand-printed by artist Naomi Kazama, will also be available.
In addition, a free paper will be distributed free of charge, which includes "Hohohoza's Kyoto Area Map," which explains "Kyoto things" from a unique perspective that will help you enjoy Kyoto even more just by knowing about them, as well as a section called "About Kyoto Books" that introduces books related to Kyoto selected by Hohohoza. Furthermore, during the period, there will be a service where customers who purchase designated products will receive a "Kyoto Seasonal Vegetable Calendar Hand Towel," which will let them know at a glance when Kyoto vegetables are in season, on a first-come, first-served basis.
