Vetements unveils new collection at photo exhibition, collaborates with DHL and Umbro [2018 Spring/Summer Collection]

Jun 30, 2017

Demna Gvasalia's Vetements unveiled its Spring/Summer 2018 collection to fashion industry insiders in the form of a photo exhibition in a garage behind Paris's Gare Saint-Lazare station.

A party was held on the first day, and Demna Gvasalia himself made an appearance. A live band from Vienna also contributed to the excitement. The models featured in the photographs, taken by Gvasalia himself, are residents of Zurich, Switzerland, where Vetements has established its base this year. Their humorous poses, with hands on waists, are reminiscent of Irving Penn's 1950s photographs.

The Spring/Summer 2018 men's and women's collections are a re-edition of pieces selected from the Vetements archives. The items are all familiar, including polka dot dresses with ruffles on the shoulders and hems, astrakhan coats with the lining facing out, and tweed suits. The men's collection also features many sweatshirts, jerseys, and blousons with logos in a variety of fonts, which may be good news for those who missed out on past collections. Collaboration items include a T-shirt in collaboration with British soccer and rugby apparel manufacturer Umbro, a blouson for shipping company DHL, and a hoodie with Tommy Hilfiger. It will be interesting to see what kind of collections Demna Gvasalia, who has declared that he doesn't want to be bound by established formats, will present in the future, and how.
