Celebrating its 100th anniversary, Balenciaga presented its Fall/Winter 2017-18 women's collection, reinterpreting its archives.

For this anniversary season, Demna Gvasalia researched and reinterpreted the lookbooks of founder Cristóbal Balenciaga to create a new, ultra-modern elegance. His approach was reflected in unexpected and unexpected designs.

Voluminous pea coats, duffle coats, and leather jackets were fastened with buttons in an asymmetrical fashion, mimicking the gesture of one hand pushing fabric over the shoulder. Classic outerwear pieces, supposedly prim and proper, appeared on the runway transformed, almost like a child's play. Asymmetrical hemlines and beautiful draping, seemingly accidental yet deliberate, created unique silhouettes. In some looks, different pieces were attached to each other as if they were part of the outfit, creating layering like a skirt hidden under a coat or shorts worn under a skirt, proposing unique styles that defy any single styling.

The "re-meaning" methodology continued: rubber-like fabric inspired by car mats was tightly wrapped around like a wrap skirt, a spare tire cover was transformed into an oversized tote bag, and a side mirror was transformed into an evening bag, giving new meaning to the pieces.

Haute couture dresses recreating the house's history included floral and striped tent dresses swept from the chest, silk dresses adorned with three-dimensional ribbon and petal motifs, and feather dresses covered in couture fabric. These custom-made dresses bore the original logo and details of the collection, exuding respect for the house's history and confidence in the many couture dresses Balenciaga has created.
