On January 6th, the first day of London Men's Fashion Week, Craig Green presented his 2017-18 collection. Since graduating from Central Martins, his unique, urban designs have garnered attention and been nominated for numerous awards. Finally, he won the Men's Designer of the Year award at the British Fashion Awards last December, making him the most talked-about figure in London this season.
As a promising young talent in London, this season's collection theme was "fear." Craig himself has stated that what scares him most is the vastness of the ocean, and presented a collection inspired by the uniforms of sailors and submariners. The opening show featured a series of coordinated looks in a monochromatic navy hue, reminiscent of the depths of the ocean. Tops and hats reminiscent of sailor uniforms were paired with wide-leg pants for almost every look. His bags, incorporating plastic tubing, resembled oxygen tanks. The signature long, dangling belt was again used on many items this season, suggesting utility. A combat-ready look was also shown, featuring models clad in bulletproof vest-like, stiff vests. The models exuded an air of urgency as they faced fear. As if to dispel the heaviness, a quilted carpet-like robe with a silhouette reminiscent of a priest's robes appeared. Its unexpected beauty, like encountering vibrant tropical fish in the ocean, captivated the viewer. While exuding a strong, muscular masculinity, a delicate and emotional side also appeared. It seemed to reflect Craig Green's current state of mind as he braves the rough waters of the fashion industry. Transforming even fear into creative power, it seems his continued growth is sure to continue.
