Dior Homme Resurrects Teenage Attitude [Men's Fall/Winter 2017-18]

Jan 22, 2017

On January 21st, Kris Van Assche's Dior Homme presented its Winter 2017-18 collection, moving from the Paris Municipal Tennis Court to the Grand Palais. Drawing inspiration from club culture, such as the rave movement that became a global trend in the late '80s and the hardcore techno movement known as "gabber" in the '90s, the collection was not simply nostalgic, but instead featured Dior Homme's signature luxury, new materials, and couture techniques for a modern and fresh look. The use of materials, such as jackets with fringe made from hanging embroidery threads on the collar, jackets adorned with studs reminiscent of baguette beads, and suits made from fabrics with hanging fringe of colored threads, was a must-see. The fusion of tailoring and streetwear is also Kris Van Assche's forte, and caps, accessories, and hooded sweatshirts featuring the new keyword "HARDIOR" were featured. These pieces beautifully harmonize while maintaining the Dior Homme signature. Based on a predominantly black color scheme, red, white, and jade-like green were used as accent colors, with orange used as the main color in the second half. There were many eye-catching items, including a T-shirt printed with a photo-processed portrait of Monsieur Dior and a series featuring paintings by Dan Vitz. The all-sequin jacket, in particular, featured hand-dyed threads holding the sequins in place to depict Dan Vitz's painting motifs, making it a masterpiece that could only be achieved by the Maison.
