On January 18th, Demna Gvasalia's Balenciaga men's collection for Fall/Winter 2017-18 was shown at the Espace Vendôme, near Place Vendôme.
While skillfully incorporating Cristóbal Balenciaga's cutting philosophy, he gave a modern twist to uniforms and workwear, creating yet another new image of Balenciaga. Even the seemingly conventional tailored coat was cut with a reference to Cristóbal Balenciaga's Basque silhouette, proposing a new style.
Techno-material coats, jackets, and coats reminiscent of rugby coaches were tailored in an oversized style, coordinated with triple-soled sneakers that had been treated to look worn in. The layering techniques were also innovative, with polo shirts and T-shirts printed with Balenciaga's corporate logo-style lettering layered over padded flannel shirts as outerwear, showing a street-style interpretation.
The Bazaar Shopper, inspired by the shopping bag featured in the women's collection, made its first appearance in the men's collection, as well as paperbag-style leather bags used in Balenciaga boutiques, which added a decorative touch to the collection. Sweatshirts and coats bearing the logo of parent company Kering also attracted a lot of attention.
