Valentino, created by Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli, presented their Fall/Winter 2015-16 men's collection at Paris Fashion Week on January 21st. The collection's starting point of inspiration was the Ballets Russes, a 1920s ballet company that pursued creative and experimental art. Valentino linked this to the house's renowned couture savoir-faire and pursuit of essential values. Practicality was blended into the men's wardrobe staples that are essential to expressing savoir-faire, such as long coats, slim-fit jackets, and cigarette pants. Double cashmere coats feature zippered fronts, while knitwear and capes feature oversized pockets. These are styled with lace-up shoes for a chic look, or nude-colored sneakers with bands for a lighter look.
The radical geometric motifs that characterize this season, expressed through patchwork, prints, and intarsia, are the result of a collaboration with Australian artist Esther Stewart. The contrasting color combinations of blue, gray, green, red, light blue, pale yellow, and burgundy are reminiscent of 1960s Futurism and Cubism. Furthermore, her influence is not limited to the motifs, but is reflected throughout the collection, including the framework and structure of the silhouettes.
