Espace Louis Vuitton will be holding "Le fil rouge," a group exhibition of contemporary artists, at three locations: Paris, Munich, and Tokyo. The Tokyo exhibition will run from April 8th to May 31st. "Le fil rouge" means "the red thread" in French, and this exhibition features works that use thread as a medium of expression. Stretched thread draws lines in space, creating works that defy the laws of physics, such as sculpture and architectural principles. Furthermore, the thread is embroidered, mixed with paint, and stitched together by fragments of canvas, creating a variety of art forms. A total of eight contemporary artists are participating in this exhibition. Four of these artists will exhibit their works at Espace Louis Vuitton Tokyo in Omotesando. Ghada Amer incorporates embroidery into pornographic magazines, exploring "female painting methods" through an inquiry into female pleasure. Michael Raedecker expresses motifs and textures through embroidery and glued thread within a unified color palette of paintings. Other exhibits planned for the venue include an installation by Tatiana Trouve featuring 250 plumb lines and a puppet movie by Hans Op de Beeck, which interprets the "red thread" in Asian mythology. Four artists will also be exhibiting their works at the Paris and Munich locations, creating a dialogue between the two locations through references to each other's work. The exhibition at Espace Louis Vuitton Munich runs from January 29th to April 11th. The event will focus on embroidery-based works, with Tracey Emin presenting a new work depicting a large embroidered female nude. Meanwhile, Espace Louis Vuitton Paris will be showcasing installations by Shiota Chiharu and Isa Melsheimer from February 6th to May 3rd.
