Elegance as an expression of individuality. Sartorialism as an unconventional gesture. Bohemian sophistication. With its Spring/Summer 2024 menswear collection, Givenchy examines the relationship between a new culture of masculine dressing and the classic men's wardrobe. Drawing on his own experiences, Artistic Director Matthew M. Williams observes a "recontextualization" of the archetype of smartness in the spirit of the times—a "resetting" our perception of a well-tailored silhouette without being constrained by the prescribed virtues of the past.

This premise leads to a "study of elegance embodied in the uniform." A dual symbol of "democracy" and "restriction," the uniform is a canvas on which teenagers can freely customize, a model for self-expression according to function and individuality. Crest-emblazoned knitwear, sweatshirts, and polos playfully explore ideas of "sizing" and "personalizing"—shrinking, stretching collars, and cropped hems. Schoolboy suits are paired among striking high-tech jackets crafted with exquisite savoir-faire in ultra-lightweight yellow and black calfskin, featuring floral embroidery from the archives and hand-encrusted crystals.

Silhouettes evolve into an exploration of wardrobe essentials, elevated by luxurious techniques and fabrics. Elaborated with gems and hardware, long-length T-shirts and jersey pieces echo the oscillating proportions of wide cargo pants and supersized chinos fastened with overlay hooks. Men's wardrobe staples, from trench coats to mac coats and blousons, are handcrafted from double-faced cotton. Givenchy Double-Face Nylon outerwear, parkas, and tops are cut to exacting dimensions, adding taut lines to silhouettes. Givenchy Garment Dye crinkled tracksuits, military smocks, and field jackets feature cutting-edge fabric treatments. Denim offers a fresh take on regular-fit jeans and cut-off shorts.

Tuxedos in Lurex and brushed wool reflect the idea of realistic proportions—neither oversized nor sculptural. The slightly elongated length and cropped sleeves evoke a sculptural concept of "refinement." A double-breasted silk-wool blazer with magnetic fastenings, hand-carved padding for sculptural square shoulders, and no back seam complete this handmade suiting series, epitomizing the pinnacle of elegance. These details are also echoed in haute couture military jackets, intricately crafted from diagonal wool, recreating the texture of the garments that inspired them. Transgenerational high dressmaking evolves into meticulously tailored jumpsuits, with similar silhouettes repeated in waistcoats and trousers.

Worn around the waist, technical bags in suede, nylon and webbing reinforce a no-nonsense, functional approach to elegance. A schoolboy-inspired backpack, mixing tech materials with rubbed suede, appears in macro and micro forms, evoking the collection's core play of proportions. Scratched suede is also used on the triangular Voilleux Crossbody, accented with silver and gold hardware, as well as on the distinctive toe derby, boots, and flat loafers. A hybrid offering based on a new wardrobe concept, lightweight nylon and corduroy sneakers elevate hiking shoes to elegance, blurring the line between sneakers and dress shoes through the Maison's savoir-faire.

Jewelry pays homage to Hubert de Givenchy, featuring orchids, the founder's favorite flower. The orchid-inspired earrings, ear cuffs and necklaces are all hand-engraved in graduated enamel, showcasing the same craftsmanship as the clothing, while the sunglasses reinterpret the classic shape with minimalist oval frames in matte metal.
