Givenchy presented its Spring/Summer 2024 women's collection. The show was held within a contemporary sculpture designed by Gabriel Calatrava of the Collaborative Architecture Laboratory on the grounds of the École Militaire.

Elegance is instinctive. The drape of a chiffon dress, the curves of a sculptural neckline, the grace of hand-painted flowers. The Givenchy Spring/Summer 2024 women's collection combines elegance shaped by a heritage with a modern desire for simplicity. Through his intuitive approach to the House, Creative Director Matthew M. Williams expresses a contemporary grammar of elegance that reflects the wardrobe mentality of the women around him.

Silhouettes are a blend of tension and relaxation. Architectural hourglass tailoring in men's wool creates half-moon curves along the neckline and hemline. Backless jackets and dresses evoke the term haute couture. Conversely, softly structured double-breasted blazers create an enveloping frame, echoing a contemporary take on opera coats in delicate duchess satin. The skirt suit is revitalized with ankle-length skirts and flight jackets.

Flowers, a timeless symbol of elegance, are recreated and interpreted by Matthew M. Williams as a source of recreation and inspiration within the archives of Hubert de Givenchy's passion for gardens. Floral motifs are embodied throughout the collection's palette, including embroidery, hand-painted motifs, prints, and sculptural metal jewelry. Lace, a signature of the Maison's elegance, is reinvented in ruffled dresses. Pearl, glass, and crystal lattice dresses and skirts transform jewels into garments.

The Maison's signature draping is expressed through second-skin filtrage dresses, sheathed, shirred, and knotted within translucent overlays. Different fabrics—chiffon, taffeta, and organza—are pieced together across multiple dresses, showcasing the same floral pattern. Mud silk, a Ming Dynasty dyeing technique in which silk is submerged in river mud, gives the ethereal dresses a flowing, leather-like effect. The material echoes leather tailoring with hardware details borrowed from Voilleux bags.

Formal wear showcases the season's sculptural lines and floral motifs in rosette cocktail dresses and taffeta and satin dresses swirling in the shape of roses. Sheer chiffon dresses epitomize the collection's draping. Crystal chokers, hoop earrings, ear cuffs and rings are adorned with pendant pearls, echoing classic pearl necklaces. Crystal-encrusted chokers are joined by Cuban chains, and rings are adorned with metal roses. Hair comb-style headbands can be transformed into alice bands in gold or silver finishes.

Covered in mesh overlays, pointed stilettos expand into boot silhouettes with ankle straps, showcasing leather and crystals accented with black and pastel mesh. Mud silk, translucent fabrics and leather wrap around pointed mules to create floral embellishments. Draped and twisted open-toe mules feature ruched motifs, and the signature Shark Rock boot is reinterpreted as an open-toe stiletto in stretch leather. Paying homage to classic elegance, minimalist D'Orsay pumps complement the collection's refined silhouettes.

The Voilleux line debuts in a new trapezoid shape, framed by a gradual sliding chain strap and a chunky, etched hardware buckle. Slim clutches in embossed crocodile or rosette-ruched detailing feature straps accented with thin "bra chains." Large, lightweight tote bags with strap closures and dressy buckle-fastening top handbags are crafted from calfskin and canvas. The new hardware motif is inspired by the interiors of Hubert de Givenchy's home. The new 4G buckle adorns dresses and sunglasses, while abstract bird embellishments lend architectural expression to soft lambskin clutches and shoulder bags.
