In a rapidly changing world, I find comfort in timeless design—items that are made to last and be passed down through generations. This collection is a prelude to the next chapter in overcoming climate change, leading to the that will be expressed in the upcoming Spring/Summer 2024 show. We need to examine ourselves, understand that our brains still work in the same way as hunter-gatherers, and consider what no longer serves us. Our brains work for us, not the other way around.

For example, I feel great joy when I see Look 6. When I learn that the denim pants are made almost entirely from repurposed cotton, the shirts are cut from deadstock cotton, and the sunglasses are made from recycled acetate, I understand that environmental decisions support the aesthetic of the design, rather than affect it.

For Chloé Creative Director Gabriela Hearst, pre-collections are a space to develop and refine the Maison's design language. While last season's collection embodied female empowerment, inspired by the Renaissance artist Artemisia Gentileschi, the Spring 2024 collection takes a more nuanced and abstract stance, centering on concepts of consciousness, circularity, and timelessness. These themes are expressed holistically on an aesthetic and technical level. The Maison strives to create authentic garments, free from ornamentation and artificiality, celebrating the beauty of craftsmanship and showcasing exceptional savoir-faire. At its heart lies a commitment to social and environmental responsibility.

Reducing the Maison's carbon footprint and using materials that make this possible, without compromising on design, has always been a top priority in every Chloé collection. A recycled cashmere turtleneck sweater is subtly tucked into jeans made from circular recycled cotton and hemp denim, developed in collaboration with Adriano Goldschmied. Botanical guipure lace inserts on environmentally friendly wool rib knits evoke the resilience and fragility of nature. The idea of natural curves and cycles is reflected in the curved engineered rib knit of this Lower Impact Wool sweater and the rounded pattern of this suede skirt with yoke detail. Knitwear pieces, like the multicolored, individually dyed jacquard-knit wool cardigan, were created in collaboration with Manos del Uruguay, a social enterprise in Gabriela's native Uruguay.

Some materials don't reveal their texture at first glance, underscoring the idea that luxury is not just something to be seen, but experienced. A light indigo jacket with a shearling collar and matching flared pants are crafted not from denim or corduroy but from soft suede. A crew-neck sweater and skirt with a lacy appearance are actually technical knits that contrast matte cashmere with lustrous silk, creating a play of different sheens for a feminine flair. A statement coat in sky blue or beige is crafted from velvet-finish shearling and strips of nappa leather.

Classic garments, trims and heritage textiles are key subjects of exploration. Chloé created bespoke cotton-wool tweeds in multicolored mouliné, incorporating them into trench coats and the new Penelope shoulder bag. Bow motifs, a deliberate departure from knots and ruffles, are featured across a variety of categories, including the season's debut Lacey bag, nappa leather dress shoulder straps, sculptural gold-tone jewelry, elegant evening shoes, and compact silk bustier dresses and bodysuits. Chain whip stitching adorns the lapels of a double-breasted hourglass jacket and a Lower Impact waffle wool overcoat, while a striking row of buttons adorns the center front of a cape coat, showcasing a crossover between jewelry-inspired embellishments and ready-to-wear techniques. An intricate cable-knit sweater crafted from Lower Impact wool is enhanced with hand-knitted metal chains for added dimension. Chloé's archives were a fresh source of inspiration for Gabriela, particularly the work of Karl Lagerfeld, who designed the house for 25 years from 1963 to 1997. The visionary designer's chapter at Chloé is captured in 28 looks that can be seen at the Met Costume Institute's exhibition, "Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty," which runs until July 16, 2023. For this year's Met Gala opening night, Gabriela designed several custom pieces for the red carpet. Actress Maude Apatow wore a column dress made of deadstock silk crepe with a hand-embroidered arrow motif, paying homage to Lagerfeld's iconic shirt dress from his Fall/Winter 1983-84 collection. The Spring 2024 festive capsule, inspired by this archival piece, features wool-crepe coats and dresses, bags, jewelry, and footwear adorned with crystal arrow shapes.

Now in its 13th year, Marcie bags have expanded into multiple product families. The iconic Marcie hardware appears in ready-to-wear, sunglasses, and jewelry, as well as centerpieces on belts, ballerina flats, city ankle boots, and slides. The Penelope bag, which debuted in the Spring/Summer 2023 collection, is available in new sizes and fabrics reflecting this season's ready-to-wear collection, including shearling, suede, tweed, and multicolored knitted wool by Manos del Uruguay.

Sustainability is at the forefront of design decisions throughout the collection. The whipstitched Mony bag is joined by new doctor's bags and satchels, crafted from undyed recycled cotton and linen combined with natural grain leather. The best-selling Lower Impact Nama sneaker is available in new styles with shearling lining, leather, and sandal styles.

Gayia eyewear, featuring recycled acetate or ReAce frames and bio-based nylon lenses, is available in three new shapes and seasonal colors, including Blooming Pink, Cobalt Blue, Vaporous Pink, Mottled Beige, and Turquoise Emerald, in addition to classic Black and Dark Havana. The eyewear collections Naomy, characterized by a bold enamel logo, and Olivia, with its signature scalloped frame, are both made from a mix of bio-based and recycled acetate, which has a low environmental impact.
