Cooking your shoes: Al Cashew Kitchen opens its first branch in eastern Japan

Dec 1, 2012

Arca Shoe Kitchen, run by Arca (Toshima Ward, Tokyo), has opened its first eastern Japan location on the second floor women's shoe floor of the Isetan Shinjuku store.
This is the world's first shoe repair shop, incorporating an open kitchen style. In the stylish open kitchen, staff dressed in chef-like toques and coats perform adjustments and repairs.
Chefs trained in German autopedic shoe technique, a shoemaking and adjustment technique based on orthopedic knowledge, tune up shoes to fit each individual's feet. Shoes that don't fit properly can be repaired in 5 to 30 minutes. The soles and insoles are made with the highest quality European materials, with consideration for health and the environment. Prices for shoe tune-ups range from 8,400 yen to 21,000 yen. Insoles start at 9,450 yen, and fully custom-made insoles start at 36,750 yen. In the Kansai region, the shop has branches in Takashimaya Osaka and Hankyu Umeda.
