Cafe Nescafé Harajuku, operated by Nestlé Japan Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Kobe City; Representative Director and CEO: Kozo Takaoka), will celebrate its grand opening on February 28th with a new look. The opening concept is "an experiential cafe to enjoy with all five senses." As Nescafé's new flagship store, the cafe will offer suggestions for enjoying not only the taste but also the moment of drinking coffee.
The five senses that form the basis of the new store's commitment are "tasting," "hearing," "scent," "touching," and "seeing." Through these elements, the cafe aims to provide customers with an "excitement" that cannot be experienced at existing cafes.
The currently popular third wave coffee demands high attention to beans and brewing methods, making it difficult to brew well unless you're a professional. Nescafé coffee machines are known for their convenience. At the grand opening, Nestlé Japan commented, "With a Nescafé machine, anyone can easily enjoy their favorite coffee with just a push of a button. There's no need to measure, and maintenance is easy. If you like it, we encourage you to install it in your home."
The first thing you'll see upon entering the store is the "tasting" experience corner located in the center of the store. This corner offers two types of coffee machines: "Nescafé Gold Blend Barista" and "Nescafé Dolce Gusto." Customers can order a "1-day mug" (926 yen) and use it as many times as they like during their stay. There are approximately 20 different combinations of flavors and brewing methods, and customers can also enjoy latte art using the cocoa and chocolate stocked in the corner.
In addition, Pepper, an emotion-recognition personal robot, is stationed next to the experience corner. Not only will it provide various information about Nescafé, but it will also select the perfect coffee for each individual.
Delicious food is also served, perfect for a relaxing stay. The "Deli Plate" (1,250 yen) allows you to choose from five types of iron pot cocotte, two types of jar salad, and eight types of pâté. It comes with three slices of focaccia dough made fresh in-house and a drink. The highlight of the dessert menu is the "Mug Cake" (352 yen), made with carefully selected ingredients. Each of the five flavors, including the "Mocha Chocolate Chip & Banana Mug Cake" and the "Vanilla & Salted Caramel Mug Cake," is carefully crafted to pair perfectly with coffee. The interior of the cafe offers terrace seating, sofa seating, and counter seating. In addition to terrace seating, a staircase-style corner allows you to lounge and relax like you're in your own living room. The table seats feature freshly roasted coffee beans, perfect for experiencing Nescafé quality. Cushions in six colors are always available, so customers can choose one to sit in.
Regarding these measures, Nestle Japan said, "Until now, cafes have been a place where customers could enjoy coffee in a 'third place,' so to speak, but the key to the new Cafe Nescafe is that customers can create their own 'My Place.'" With the desire for customers to be able to choose their favorite flavor, pick their favorite seat and relax more than they would at home, the interior of the store has been kept simple, allowing each customer to paint the space in their own style.
