Tadanobu Asano exhibition begins in the "Gallery" toilets at Laforet Harajuku

Dec 9, 2019
Laforet Harajuku's basement restroom, which serves as both a restroom and an art gallery and exhibits artworks on a rotating schedule, will begin exhibiting works by actor Tadanobu Asano on December 6th. A Tonda Hayashi Ran merchandise vending machine will be available for a limited time in the space in front of the women's and multi-purpose restrooms on the third floor.

Gallery Toilet will be showcasing the work of Tadanobu Asano, a multifaceted actor who also works in music and art. Asano's unique work, often posted on Instagram and Twitter, has garnered attention, and in 2018 he held an exhibition showcasing 700 of his drawings.

The title of this piece is "The Faucet Won't Stop Running." Asano commented, "I want people to enter a different world when they enter the restroom, and when they leave, wonder what they were thinking about just a moment ago. In that sense, it would be great if it could refresh people who are tired or worried."

In addition, in front of the women's and multi-purpose restrooms on the third floor, the "cutting-edge smart capsule machine TUTUU PLANT" will be available for a limited time until January 2020. The machine sells merchandise created in collaboration with art gallery VOILLD and Tonda Hayashi Ran, who designed the interior of the restrooms when they were renovated in March this year.

Hand mirror (1,000 yen including tax)
There are eight items in total: three types of mirrors, two types of key chains, and three types of stickers. The unique and pop world of Tonda Hayashi Ran is bursting forth, with items such as a hand mirror printed with a pizza-themed collage, a key chain with a motif of Tonda Hayashi Ran's mouth, and a sticker of a fried egg with an ant on it. Don't miss out on the goods that can only be purchased here.

In addition, the toilets on the fourth floor have also been renovated, with designs by Hamakami Kenji of switch lab inc., who also worked on the pop-up space "CONTAINER" on the second floor. In order to revive the ginkgo tree that served as Laforet Harajuku's "signature tree" and protected the entrance until February of this year, the toilet was designed with the concept of "Laforet Forest" and features a three-dimensional, pop design that uses a large ginkgo tree as a deformed image.
