Hobonichi Sunday, a gallery space newly opened on the 8th floor of Shibuya Parco, will be hosting a commemorative exhibition titled "Continuing the Continuation of Minagawa Akira" from December 11th to 29th, in celebration of the "Mina Perhonen / Minagawa Akira Tsuzuku" exhibition currently being held at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo.

Mina Perhonen (minä perhonen) is popular not only as a fashion brand but also for its interior and miscellaneous goods. Their collaboration with the Hobonichi Techo began with the 2011 edition, and this year marks its 10th anniversary. The exhibition "Mina Perhonen / Minagawa Akira Tsuzuku," which can be considered a culmination of the work of Mina Perhonen and designer Minagawa Akira, is currently running at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo until February 16th, 2020. To commemorate this exhibition, "Continuing the Continued" will be a special exhibition event featuring original designs and textiles that have spilled out of "Tsudzuku", a miniature "continuation" of "Tsudzuku" at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, as well as Minagawa's sketches and creative notebooks.
Original designs and textiles for "home circle"
The venue will simultaneously exhibit the original designs drawn by Minagawa and textiles from minä perhonen. When Minagawa creates her paintings, she does not refer to photographs, but rather draws directly from the images in her head. The original designs were then drawn, and the minä perhonen textiles that were created from them. By carefully comparing the two, you'll be amazed not only by the captivating artistic touch, but also by the wisdom and skill of the artisans who express the wear and shading in the textiles.
Hobonichi Techo 2020 piece, (original mix)
There will also be an exhibition focusing on "piece,", tiny pieces of fabric. Each one tells a different story, and minä perhonen's textiles have a variety of expressions. These tiny pieces are connected to create minä perhonen's "piece,". The Hobonichi Techo covers made with this "piece," are one of the most popular patterns every year. Experience the infinite charm of "piece," through the possibilities of small scraps of fabric and the fun of combining them.
Hobonichi Techo 2011 (2 designs)
There will also be a corner showcasing Mina Perhonen's Hobonichi Techo covers that have been sold at Hobonichi so far. Mina Perhonen's techo covers began with the 2011 edition, and to date, she has produced over 60 designs. To coincide with this commemorative event, covers currently on sale and those already out of stock will be on display at the venue. Some replacement covers will also be available for purchase at the venue, albeit in limited quantities. Check out which designs are available in store, as quantities are limited.
