Her first exhibition, "Marika Ito's Brain Exhibition," held in 2017, explored the mind of Marika Ito, who loves not only fashion, art, and culture but also minerals and moss, and who views the world from her own unique perspective. The exhibition attracted over 30,000 visitors across three locations across Japan: Shibuya, Fukuoka, and Kyoto.
This time, from her perspective as a creator and curator, she has commissioned four creators and three brands to produce and exhibit collaborative works. The "Photography Zone," featuring photographer Kosuke Mae, who also captured vivid colors and moments in Ito's previous solo exhibition, will feature exclusive photos, including styling by Ito herself and the first-ever photo shoot at her home.
The "Manga Zone" will showcase the manga collaboration that forms the core of this exhibition, realized through a love call to manga artist Umi Shiina. A new short story has been created specifically for this exhibition, and the book will be available for viewing at the venue as a reference. The "Short Movie Zone" will feature an original video based on the manga collaboration, a film that can be considered a complete companion to the manga. It will be directed by Sho Yanagisawa, who produced "Toy" for the previous exhibition.
In addition, choreographer Nagisa Sugao will create a video that organically combines fashion and dance, two important elements that define Ito. In the "Fashion x Dance Zone," she will exhibit footage of herself dancing in four haute couture pieces, including one created in collaboration with three brands - BODYSONG., Tanaka Daisuke, and PERMINUTE - as well as a collaboration with her own mother.
In addition, commemorative products for the exhibition will be on sale, including a zine that she herself helped direct, apparel goods, postcards, and more. She will also collaborate with the fashion magazine "SOEN," in which she has a column, and will develop her exhibition and works in a wide range of ways, including a special feature in the magazine.
