Ellie Omiya is currently holding an exhibition that marks the culmination of her career as a painter.

Feb 10, 2015

"Emotional Journey: Ellie Omiya's First Large-Scale Painting Exhibition" is currently being held at Daikanyama Hillside Terrace. It runs until February 15th. Ellie Omiya is an artist active in various fields, including as a writer, screenwriter, and film director. In her 2012 solo exhibition, "Conveying Feelings," she presented eight works in which participants played the main role in the story, including "The Door That Stands in the Way" and "The Box of the Heart." Since then, she has held other experiential solo exhibitions, including "What It Means to Be Alive" and "Messages from the Starry Sky." Meanwhile, in 2012, she launched her career as a painter with a live drawing event, "Celebratory Melody: Naoshima," in Ueno. This exhibition showcases a selection of her paintings, ranging from works created in front of an audience for the exhibition to works completed in one go late at night. Several large-scale works are included.

Tomio Koyama, who organized the art exhibition, said of Omiya, "Omiya Ellie has always valued the real, on-the-spot experience of using the medium of exhibitions to convey images and words to the audience along with spatial installations. Her paintings are like outsider art, like Yosa Buson, or like Jean Cocteau; they truly traverse regions and time with complete freedom, and the 'raw art' that emanates from her as an individual emanates overwhelming strength and madness."
