Toraya's "Toraya Calendar 2020," based on a sample book of Hinamatsuri sweets (hina-style sweets), has been on sale since October 1st at Toraya directly managed stores and some department stores.

"Toraya Calendar 2020" (1,100 yen including tax)
"Toraya Calendar" is an original calendar created without adding unnecessary design elements in order to make the most of the hand-colored sweet illustrations. The motif chosen for the 2020 calendar is a sample book of Hinamatsuri sweets. This is a design book for sweets, similar to today's product catalogs. Although there is no title or date listed, it bears the red seal of Kurokawa Kagehime, the 14th owner of Toraya, and is thought to have been created between the late Meiji period and the pre-war Showa period.

The Hinamatsuri is an event to pray for the healthy growth of girls. The sweets are imbued with wishes for good relationships, and the manju in the March sweet box resembles clams, a symbol of marital harmony, while the sweets on the December stand resemble bonito flakes, which are prepared as auspicious gifts for engagement gifts and other occasions. All are made small to be displayed on the Hinadan stage, and the intricate designs using rakugan and candy are eye-catching.

Toraya also has a "Sweets Sample Book" created in 1695, a valuable historical document that conveys sweet designs to the present day. The celebratory sweets will add a touch of festive cheer to our lives as we turn the pages of the calendar. Enjoy the carefully drawn illustrations, including the containers, down to the smallest detail.

The soft colors enhance the illustrations in the sample book, and the original "Wakashi" paper made specifically for this purpose has been used. Attention has been paid to every detail, from the font used for the date to the printing ink. The "Toraya Calendar 2020" is limited in quantity and will be sold out once stock runs out.
