Each year, Van Cleef & Arpels celebrates the arrival of spring, heralding new beginnings. In 2023, the Lucky Spring collection expands with four new additions: two pendants, an Entrée Les Dor ring, and a bracelet. These poetic creations combine gentle floral and animal motifs with the sparkle of ornamental stones, gracefully depicting the awakening of nature.

Blossoming Spring
Introduced in 2021, the Lucky Spring collection embodies Van Cleef & Arpels' unique poetic vision and positive outlook on life. This year, two of the Maison's dear themes, nature and good fortune, are brought together in new creations that join Van Cleef & Arpels' enchanting gardens. In these creations, a vibrant palette of rose gold, white mother-of-pearl, onyx and carnelian adorns delicate motifs, depicting radiant, idyllic scenes. Lily of the valley, ladybugs and plum blossoms weave a pure and graceful spring landscape. Each motif has been meticulously considered and designed throughout the creative process to convey the messages of good fortune and joy that the Maison wishes to convey.

A Joyous Symphony
Blooming from winter to spring, plums are a symbol of renewal and rebirth. The blossoming of plum blossoms signals the arrival of spring, conveying vitality and renewed energy. The iridescent glow of white mother-of-pearl evokes the delicate texture of each of the five rounded petals. This rose gold bracelet adorned with this motif creates the impression of a noble flower blooming on the wrist, while the plum blossom pendant illuminates the décolleté with its gentle glow. A specially crafted gold pistil accentuates the centre of the corolla, further enhancing the brilliance of the piece.

The new Lucky Spring collection sees the ladybug, an icon of the Maison's animal kingdom, take on a new look. In the Entre Les Dor ring, this charming creature is brought to life in vibrant harmony with lily of the valley and plum blossoms. Vibrant carnelian, jet-black onyx and the delicate iridescence of white mother-of-pearl create a beautiful harmonious composition. The piece is completed with a rounded border of gold beads. The harmonious pairing of the awakening flower and the creature symbolizing good fortune is also repeated in the pendant. A ladybug, ready to take flight, reveals its gently rounded body between its outstretched wings. The body is carved from mirror-polished rose gold, complemented by the sparkle of gold studs that represent the spots on the bird's wings.

Materials of Vibrant Color
Van Cleef & Arpels meticulously selects materials to poetically interpret the colors of nature and to give each piece a vibrant brilliance. The Maison's gemstone experts carefully select carnelian, with its uniform, vibrant orange-red hue and subtle transparency; jet-black onyx, with its intense luster; and white mother-of-pearl, with its harmonious iridescent hues. The rose gold captures and softly reflects the vibrant light of these materials.

Artisanal Savoir-Faire
The exceptional savoir-faire of the Maison's artisans is reflected in the precision and meticulousness required throughout the creative process. Each piece comes to life through the various steps of stone selection, cutting, jewellery work, setting and polishing.

Ornamental stones are carefully shaped and then polished to reveal their true brilliance. The motifs are carved using the traditional lost-wax casting technique, after which each gold bead is hand-crafted and set. Discreet prongs are carefully bent to secure the stones in their gold settings. The pendants, bracelets and long necklaces feature identical decorations on both the front and back of each motif, ensuring they always look beautiful. Finally, a polished finish is applied to enhance the overall beauty of the piece.

Shine the Spotlight on Flowers
Since its founding, Van Cleef & Arpels has been inspired by the vitality of flowers. The first daisy clip appeared in the Maison's archives in 1907, just one year after the company's founding. From the imaginary to botanical designs and wildflowers, plants became an endless source of inspiration for charms, brooches, and watches. Artisans brought chrysanthemums, peonies, and bellflowers to life. From the 1930s onward, the Maison produced magnificent pieces using the mystery set technique. Influenced by the hippie wave and flower power in the 1970s, floral silhouettes became simpler and colors more vibrant. The Saint-Louis clip is a prime example of this. Floral motifs continue to grace the Maison's contemporary collections, blooming elegantly in high jewelry, radiantly in fleurette pieces, and graphically in the Frivole collection.

Ladybugs, the Maison's benevolent companion
A symbol of good fortune, these delicate creatures are also heralds of spring. In the world of Van Cleef & Arpels, they have evolved alongside fairies and four-leaf clovers, weaving a world of enchantment. Often depicted in red, they also appear in bolder hues, such as the white of mother-of-pearl or the greens and blues of enamel. Initially depicted as static, the ladybug motif later took on a dynamic appearance in more contemporary pieces, adorning small pieces such as rings, charms and clips since the 1930s. Later, in the La Boutique collections of the 1960s and 1970s, they were combined with other motifs from nature, coexisting with butterflies, flowers and turtles. More recently, the ladybug motif has inspired exceptional creations, from high jewellery to watchmaking, such as the magnificent Mystery Set ruby clip from the 2012 Palais de la Chance collection and the Secret de Coccinelle watch, which won the Grand Prix Horlogerie de Genève in 2018.
