Gallery VOILLD in Nakameguro is celebrating its fifth anniversary with a grand reopening. Its first exhibition will be a solo exhibition of new works by painter Yudai Nishi, titled "COMMA," which will run from August 31st to October 13th.

Tokyo-based painter Yudai Nishi's work is composed of simple, stripped-down, powerful lines, carefully selected colors, familiar motifs, or objects that have been transformed into unique forms. These works are influenced by 1980s American comics, heroes, and street art, which are his roots, and are expressed through his own thoughts.
At first glance, Nishi's works appear familiar and simple, but behind them lie glimpses of modern values regarding material things, complex and intricate forms of communication, and irony toward the diversifying nature of individuality. His works, which uniquely simplify various issues and are drawn with stimulating color schemes and playfully flowing lines, are designed so simply that the viewer can intuitively grasp their appeal and essence.

This highly anticipated exhibition marks Nishi's first in about a year and his fourth at Boiled, following his solo exhibition "Rainbow Cave" in 2018. The exhibition will feature approximately 20 new two-dimensional works, as well as his first attempt at a large-scale three-dimensional work.
For this exhibition, titled "COMMA," the artists created works that question the understanding of a split second that lasts less than a second. While Nishi's signature motifs, clean lines, and distinctive, vibrant colors remain unchanged, featuring flowers, animals, and humorous, human-like characters, the works on display are more energetic, exploring the hidden potential of their spontaneous power.
