IMA to host exhibition of four cutting-edge Spanish photographers and photozine workshop

Feb 17, 2015

"Photography Now! Vol.2 - Spanish New Horizon," an exhibition featuring works by four cutting-edge photographers from Spain, will be held at IMA CONCEPT STORE in Roppongi, Tokyo, from March 13th to April 26th.
This exhibition, the second following last year's "Photography Now!", is a traveling exhibition of the same name held at Paris photography gallery LE BAL two years ago. The exhibition features works by each photographer, each of whom spent more than four years creating works while facing the Spanish land. The aim was to transform the photobook into an exhibition, allowing the individual personalities of the four photographers to coexist.
All four of the participants in the exhibition have published highly acclaimed photobooks. Ricardo Cases rose to fame in the photography world with "Paloma al aire," a documentary of Spain's colorful pigeon races. Oscar Monzon's photo book "KARMA" explores the relationship between cars and their occupants, while Alex Prademonte's "Almost There" explores the polar concepts of "closest" and "farthest." Antonio Cobanova created "Casa de Campo," set in Casa de Campo, one of Spain's largest urban parks.

In addition, a gallery talk by visiting artists will be held on March 14th. From the 20th to the 22nd, Ricardo Cases will host a "Photozine Workshop." In this workshop, participants will create photozines using photographs brought by the participants. On the first day, Cases will analyze each participant's work and propose solutions. On the second day, these will be expanded into images, and on the third day, editing and layout will be completed.

The completed photozines will be printed, photographed, and exhibited at the venue, as well as published on the blog. A PDF file will also be provided for participants to take home.
