Miu Miu presented its Autumn/Winter 2023 collection in Paris on March 7th.
A perspective on intervention and invention. Miuccia Prada's Miu Miu Autumn/Winter 2023 collection explores the instinctive process of seeing, how we see and how the act of observation shifts the object of our focus. Seeing is like a window into thought.
Although the subject is the observer, design is not passive. Workmanship is a tool to alter perception, changing proportions through design and cut, exaggerating shapes, layering and blending fabrics to alter the way the garment fits the body. The choice of technique and materials can dramatically change the visual impact of an outfit and how we interpret it.
Through repeated experimentation and research into new mediums, garments have been redesigned to evolve both in construction and the way they are worn. Familiar pieces like twin sets, knee-length skirts and hooded sweatshirts are reinterpreted, blending strength and delicacy through the use of different materials. The concept of seeing challenges the notions of "innerwear" and "outerwear," with sheer chiffon revealing normally invisible garments, deliberately revealing stockings, and layered dresses. Complex layering demands closer observation, evoking a sense of exploration and curiosity.
At the Palais de Jena, models walked on a raised runway for easier observation. Screens scattered throughout the space show a video work by Korean artist Jeong Geum-hyun, which examines the relationship between one's own body and clothing. This work attracts and captures the viewer's attention, encouraging them to look at it consciously. Various possibilities are presented, forcing the viewer to think.
Mia Goth opened the runway, followed by Rick Brakus, Ethel Cain, Noen Eubanks, Amelia Grey, Sam Nivola, Mame Bineta Sane and Zaya Wade. Emma Corrin closed the show.
