On March 2nd, Givenchy presented its Fall/Winter 2023 women's collection in Paris. A new elegance. A contemporary study in glamour. A recontextualization of archetypes. For its Fall/Winter 2023 women's collection, Givenchy explores transgenerational sophistication by revisiting classic compositions.

Using the Maison's essential intuition, Artistic Director Matthew M. Williams translated the principles of elegance established by Hubert de Givenchy into the dress culture of the artistic woman community that surrounds him today. This premise is expressed in the demonstration of codes that seduce the modern wardrobe mentality – offerings of confidence, comfort, and empowerment.

A new reflection on elegance is shaped by a balance between old and new. Silhouettes, construction, and styling are informed by the past and adapted to the present. Tailoring emphasizes volume, creating strong shoulders and a softly nipped waist without restricting. A black coat, developed in an haute couture atelier, is crafted from satin, tricotine, cashmere, and mohair and features inverted pleats with buttons at the back and waist. A suit jacket of the same silhouette, only sheerly lined, exudes the contemporary feel of a mini dress.

Matthew M. Williams's dialogue between "Parisian chic" and "American cool" at Givenchy unfolds through the formalization of sportswear and workwear. The relaxed body language of traditional sweatshirts and denim is interpreted more elevatively. Double-faced cashmere coats and jackets, shearling-lined shell jackets, flowing, flared wool trousers, cozy cashmere knits, and stretch smocked leather dresses. Contemporary evening silhouettes are expressed in elegant all-sweatshirt and all-denim occasion looks, proposing a new form of formality. Coats and jackets are made from denim and tailored fabrics, ripped and repaired to create a tweed-like texture.

Layered styles—luxurious baggy sweatshirts, delicate jersey tops, cargo, bondage, felpa skirts, and kilts—offer a new interpretation of elegance. A floral pattern borrowed from Hubert de Givenchy's archives is rendered in laser-etched overdyed nylon. Together with fish motifs, these flowers represent a study in arbitrary and symbolic imagery, resonating with glamour while catching the eye of the modern eye. This motif from the Maison's archives is featured on shirred dresses with trains, chainmail dresses, and gowns constructed with twisted bands. Among the color accents, lavallière dresses in leather and hammered satin maintain a balance with purity.

Evening dresses created in the haute couture ateliers reflect the self-expression that characterizes the new mentality of dress culture and draw inspiration from archive creations. A grand chenille pannier dress is all-over embroidered with micro-floral nylon appliqués, while a voluminous black triangular tulle dress worn over a corset is entirely pleated by hand. Pavé stitching details on the shoulders of the dresses are echoed in rings, cuffs, ear cuffs and oversized pearl necklaces, while delicate jewel flowers bloom around the neck and ears.

The new silver metal sunglasses, with their elegantly narrow arches, echo the classic elegance of the G-Scape headband, while the new Terra metal frame merges with the visor in a glamorous gesture. Meanwhile, the angular Giv Cut shades, crafted in silver, gold or black metal frames, create a lighter, more airy look.

Continuing from the Spring/Summer season, the Maison's new iconic bag, the Voilleux, is offered in an elegant design that combines luxurious materials such as shearling, cashmere, aged leather, metallic leather, and exotic materials with biker details. The new Party Voilleux bag, designed for evening wear, is also available in satin nylon and velvet with a chain handle. The Cutout collection is interpreted through a minimalist lens, showcasing iconic bags in glamorous renditions that reinforce new notions of elegance, including the rounded silhouette of the Spazzolato, floral and fish print evening chainmail, and solid metal framed objects. The signature bucket silhouette of the 4G Padlock is transformed into the details of an elegant shark lock boot in exotic leather.

The subversive shoe language inherent in Matthew M. Williams' creations is expressed through silhouettes adapted from doll shoes. Stilettos, crafted from delicate, luxurious materials, feature square or round toes and ample volume. Super-pointed slingbacks are embellished with the collection's signature pavé stitching, while pointed slingbacks and pump wedges are constructed with layered exotic materials. The Shark Cowboy Boots, with their wide, spats-like shafts, represent the bondage and cargo wear elements of the collection, while the high boots, featuring a classic round toe and natural wood heel, are made of soft leather and echo the comfort-oriented proposal.
