Longines introduces a pilot's watch that evolves in design and functionality based on the historic model released in 1935.

Feb 24, 2023
Longines, known as a pioneer of pilot's watches and boasting a history spanning more than 190 years, has launched the Longines Pilot Majetec, a pilot's watch that builds on the historic model released in 1935 with enhanced design and functionality. The watch will be available at the Longines online boutique on February 22, 2023, followed by sales at Longines retail stores and authorized Longines retailers nationwide. The distinctive cushion-shaped case and bidirectional fluted bezel, which originate from the original 1935 model, are the defining features of the Longines Pilot Majetec. Embracing a historic story and pioneering spirit, this timepiece, evolved with the latest technology, will inspire your spirit of adventure.

Boasting a history spanning more than 190 years, the Swiss watch brand Longines has shared challenges with pioneers of the air, land, and sea, developing timepieces that lead the way. Headquartered in the same place where the brand was founded, Longines continues to create timepieces that combine a rich historical heritage backed by a long history with cutting-edge technology. In 2023, a pilot's watch that inherits the DNA of this historic icon will be reborn as the new Longines Pilot Majetec. The original 1935 model, which is its roots, was developed for aviators and has captivated many who seek its toughness, accuracy, easy-to-read design, and reliability. It features a deeply curved cushion-shaped case and a rotating bezel with a marker that displays the start time. This distinctive cushion-shaped case design was registered with the International Industrial Property Office in Bern, Switzerland, on April 1, 1935.

The new Longines Pilot Majetec represents a significant evolution in both design and functionality. Its most distinctive features are its cushion-shaped stainless steel case and bidirectional fluted bezel, which continue the legacy of the 1935 model. The cushion-shaped stainless steel case features a gentler curve than the original. In addition to the curves, the case size and more rounded lugs reflect design trends while also providing exceptional comfort. The watch is available with a brown leather strap with beige topstitching on the sides, or a NATO-style strap made from recycled polyester fiber. A commemorative plaque at 9 o'clock on the exterior of the case bears the year "1935," the year the original model was created.

The bidirectional fluted rotating bezel on the outside of the case moves in sync with the luminous triangle markers on the inside (indicating the start time) and is water-resistant to 10 bar. (The triangle markers are positioned between the sapphire crystal and the dial. The sapphire crystal remains fixed, allowing the fluted rotating bezel and markers to rotate independently, contributing to the case's water resistance.) The stainless steel case is equipped with a patented gear mechanism and has a screw-down caseback. The watch is powered by the Longines Exclusive Caliber L893.6, which boasts an antimagnetic silicon balance spring and a power reserve of approximately 72 hours. The entire watch has been certified as a chronometer by COSC, the official Swiss chronometer testing institute, an independent authority.

The Longines Pilot Majetec also boasts the iconic characteristics of a pilot's watch. Its highly legible matte black dial, Arabic numerals coated with old radium-colored Super-LumiNova®, railroad minute markers, and old radium-colored baton hands coated with luminous paint ensure excellent visibility, even at night. The small seconds dial at 6 o'clock, along with the fluted rotating bezel, exude the functional beauty of a pilot's watch. This timepiece exudes a unique individuality while maintaining a balanced design down to the finest details.
