The Sogo Museum of Art on the 6th floor of the Sogo Yokohama store will be holding the "Alice in Wonderland Exhibition" from September 21st to November 17th.

More than 150 years have passed since the first edition of "Alice in Wonderland" was published in 1865. It has already been translated into over 170 languages and is a global bestseller, with a total circulation of an estimated 100 million copies. The upcoming "Alice in Wonderland Exhibition" will be an unprecedented exhibition that allows visitors to enjoy Alice's magical world from multiple angles, featuring not only precious original drawings but also a full range of collaborative projects.
At the venue, the author Lewis Carroll's precious hand-drawn sketches, the origin of this masterpiece, will be on display for the first time in Japan. The original drawings by John Tenniel, who illustrated the first edition, will also be on display, providing a glimpse into the origins of the story. In addition, there will be "Alice" artwork by seven internationally active picture book authors and illustrators, based on the two stories, "Alice in Wonderland" and "Through the Looking-Glass." Yayoi Kusama, "Poisonous Mushrooms," 1990, Silkscreen on paper, Collection of Matsumoto City Museum of Art. "Alice in Wonderland," beloved not only as a book but also in a variety of genres including film, animation, music, and theater, continues to inspire many artists today, leading to the creation of new "Alice" stories. This exhibition brings together a wide variety of "Alice" works from past to present, showcasing works by artists who have added new expressions to the story. Through the various "Alice" stories created by artists such as Eric Carle, Noritaka Tatehana, and anno lab, who have created new works specifically for the exhibition, as well as Yayoi Kusama, the exhibition showcases the timeless and mysterious charm of the story. This exhibition offers a rare opportunity to experience the mysterious world of approximately 200 Alice-themed artworks from all over the world, past and present.
In addition, there will be other enjoyment options beyond just viewing the artworks, such as advance tickets (3,000 yen including tax) with an original limited edition pin badge in collaboration with Hard Rock Cafe, collaborative merchandise with Wednesday Alice, a concept shop hugely popular among women, an official book (1,000 yen) produced by QuizKnock, a group of intellectuals from the University of Tokyo led by Takuji Izawa, and two types of audio guides by voice actor Hiroaki Hirata and QuizKnock.
