"This season, I wanted to focus on the techniques and craftsmanship of couture, while adding a modern lightness, fluidity and attitude," said Kim Jones, Artistic Director of Couture and Womenswear. "It embodies the intimate tradition of couture, the ingenuity of the ateliers and artisans who make these garments possible, their dedication and the emotional attachment each piece deserves, as well as the maker and wearer. This collection is a metaphorical and literal expression of the inner world becoming the outer world, of underwear becoming eveningwear."

This season, Kim Jones and the artisans at the Fendi ateliers of this iconic luxury brand in Rome, Italy, continued to approach the couture collection as an internal palimpsest. Repeated and transparent fragments of the past frame the present, seamlessly transitioning into the future.

The tradition of couture is humanized and accessible, radiating radiance and transparency while remaining light and comfortable. The ostentatiousness of "costume" is eschewed, expressing a fluidity and a pursuit of change that reflects the agency of the women who wear them. The shapes of dresses are accentuated by fluid silhouettes, and the idea of the ensemble is reborn with new meaning, replacing rigidity with a sense of purposeful, constant change and adaptability. Winged sleeves are often detachable, and lingerie is designed as an integral part of the look, intricately embroidered even when not visible, creating unexpected production processes. Coats, featuring the same intricate embroidery as the matching dresses underneath, can be worn reversibly. "Aprons" and wrap skirts can also be worn as stoles.

An artful "sprezzatura," a blend of the finished and the unfinished, permeates the collection. It's the nonchalance and deliberate imperfection that makes us completely human. These are clothes to be worn and lived in, not just seen. Body-hugging drapes and knots, explorations of lace and its placement, and hand-pleated motifs, combined with exceptional knit fabrics, create a three-dimensional, organic feel while also demonstrating a virtuoso display of "sprezzatura." Even the most practical carabiner is transformed into a luxurious sculptural object, subtly connecting the materials.

Ideas of the finished and the unfinished, the mechanical and the organic, the hard and the soft, come together with the masterful craftsmanship of the Fendi atelier to create metallic leather lace motifs. Ultra-soft and supple leather is handcrafted with lace-like cutouts and lace intarsia for recurring chainmail-like gloves and matching dress and underwear ensembles. Similarly, cascading gowns are framed in ultra-fine Japanese mohair "Fuuga," renowned as the finest yarn in the world, resulting in the ultimate in ultra-thin, lightweight crochet that almost resembles lace.
