The Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee has unveiled the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Torch Relay Torch. It features a cherry blossom motif and was designed by Tokujin Yoshioka.

The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Torch Relay Torch is 710mm long, weighs 1.2kg and is cherry blossom gold in colour. Its motif is the cherry blossom, the flower most familiar to Japanese people. The traditional Japanese "cherry blossom crest" is formed using aluminum extrusion, a manufacturing technique also used in the production of Shinkansen bullet trains. The seamless torch is a symbol of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Torch Relay, born from the union of Japanese tradition and advanced technology.

The shape of the Olympic flame is also designed, and five flames born from petals will come together in the center of the torch relay torch, illuminating the "Path of Hope" with an even greater brilliance. To keep the flame burning, the combustion section that lights the torch employs a system that supports the red flame with two combustion methods: a powerful blue flame and flameless combustion (catalytic combustion). Over the long 121-day Tokyo 2020 Olympic Torch Relay, the beautiful and powerful flame will remain lit in Japan's environment, which changes dramatically depending on the time of day, season, climate, and region.

Part of the material is recycled aluminum construction waste from temporary housing built after the Great East Japan Earthquake. These temporary housing units, which have watched over people's lives, have been transformed into the Olympic Torch Relay Torch as a symbol of peace, conveying to the world the image of the disaster-stricken areas moving step by step toward recovery.

Designer Tokujin Yoshioka is active in the fields of design, architecture, and contemporary art. His works, which feature nature as a theme and reflect the roots of Japanese beauty, have won numerous international awards. This year's Olympic Torch Relay Torch was selected through a public competition, with a joint venture formed to handle everything from design to manufacturing. With the cooperation of experts from various fields, the torch was selected through two judging sessions that considered various criteria, including excellent design, the performance of the combustion mechanism that lights the flame, and consideration for sustainability. In March 2020, with the arrival of cherry blossom season, the Olympic torch will travel across Japan, uniting with the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Torch Relay concept of "Hope Lights Our Way."
