The first ever "CURRY & MUSIC JAPAN 2019," an event fusing curry and music, will be held for two days on June 29th and 30th at the Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse Event Square.


Curry rice, which has evolved uniquely in Japan and is now a national dish, has many theories about its origins, but one is that it was spread by foreigners in the foreign settlement established when Yokohama Port opened on June 2nd, 1859.

Held for the first time in Yokohama, the birthplace of curry, this event is a collaboration between a curry festival and live music. The venue will feature a wide variety of carefully crafted curry dishes from renowned restaurants, mainly in Kanagawa Prefecture, as well as exclusive live performances and talk sessions by curry-loving artists. A total of 15 artists have been confirmed to perform, including Magokoro Brothers, who celebrated their 30th anniversary this year; PUFFY; KIRINJI, who celebrated their 20th anniversary in 2018; the band apart (naked), the up-and-coming young band FIVE NEW OLD; Hoff Dylan, comprised of Yuhi Komiyama (a curry connoisseur in the music industry and owner of a curry restaurant) and Watanabe Baby; TOKYO HEALTH CLUB; TRI4TH; Suzuka Harada; FIVE NEW OLD; and TENDOUJI. Some of the curry rice shops that will be participating have also been announced. Curry rice from around 15 shops will be gathered at Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse, including the waterless keema curry from "Chii Ringo," a sister shop of Harajuku's "Mino Ringo" with a shop in Ofuna, and the exquisite curry from Curry Club Cuyelle, which also has a shop in Ofuna and uses French techniques. There will also be a store specializing in ready-made curry that only sells ready-made curry from various regions of Japan.
